Passing short & long

Player 2 is 10 yards from player 1, player 3 10 yards from player 2.
  1. Player 1 plays a 1-2 with player 2 and then passes to player 3. Player 2 then jogs (sideways, backwards, flicking heels up etc) to player 3 position and player 1 moves to player 2 position.
  2. Player 3 passes the ball long to the start of the line and follows his/her pass. The drill continues.

Focus on:

  • Timing of run/pass
  • Body shape
  • First touch
  • Quality of pass

Variation:

  1. Player 1 passes to player 2, who passes back. Player 2 moves to a wide position.
  2. Player 1 passes wide to player 2.
  3. Player 2 controls the ball with an open body position and passes to player 3.
  4. Player 3 passes long to the next player in the line.
  5. Player 1 moves to player 2 position, player 2 to player 3 and player 3 joins the line.
