Practice 15 - Technical work

I am helping a friend to get into Coaching and thought I would put on a session that would make him feel comfortable. Station training would allow him to get involved and do some coaching, it will also benefit the girls technical abilities.

Fun Game. 25 Min (with stretching in between)

Mark out a 20 x 20 field. Assign one ball as the possession ball (It will be better if you choose a ball that is different from any other you have). One team keeps possession, the other team has one ball to throw.
  • The team with the ball passes the ball and keeps possession.
  • The defending team have to throw their ball to each other. They cannot run once they are holding the ball.
  • To get possession, the defending team have to hit the possession ball with their ball by throwing it. if this happens, possession switches.

Focus on:

  • Defending team - The nearest player to the possession ball runs and calls for the ball to be thrown to them.
  • Possession team - Knowing were the ball that is being thrown around is. Lifting their heads and keeping possession. If the ball is going to be hit, shield it.
  • Awareness
  • Communicating
  • Movement
  • Fun

Variation:

  • Add two balls for the defending team.
  • Play two touch for the possession team.

Station Training 30 Min

  • 1 touch passing in small area using both feet

  • Player 1 passes to player 2 and calls out 'HOLD'. Player 1 then runs round both cones and then player 2 passes into player 1 path.

  • Players pass 1 touch through cones. Once they get to the end of the cones, go the opposite way using the opposite foot.

  • Throw ins. Players can either pass back first time or control the ball and pass back. The ball must go back to the throwers feet. Have the receiving player 'checking' towards the ball.

  • One player dribbles to the cones and performs a turn. After the turn the player moves away quickly, then slows down.

Set your circuit to 6 minutes for each exercise. The players who are working in two's will obviously go for 3 minutes. It is important that the players use this style of training to practice their techniques.
15 Minutes - Possession Played a 7 v 3 possession in a 20 x 20 area. Kept on switching defenders.
15 Minutes - 5 v 5 Scrimmage
