Practice 13 - Passing and Moving

After the weekend game, we needed to still keep on passing and moving. Our tackling could of been better, I will add that into the warm up. I had ten players.

Fun Game. 15 Min

Mark out a 25 x 25 area. Choose two players to be 'Taggers', the rest of the players have a ball each.

  • The players move around the area dribbling their ball.

  • The taggers run around and try to kick the ball out of the area.

  • If a ball is kicked out, then that player tries to support players who have a ball.

  • Now the players with a ball can pass to open players who have no ball.

  • Eventually you will end with 1 ball and a 8 v 2 keep away.

  • Change taggers

Passing / Moving

Passing and Moving - 20 Minutes

Set up two 20 x 20 areas, five players in each area. One soccer ball for each group. Set up as above with four players on the outside and one in the middle. Player 1 starts with the soccer ball.

  • Pass sequence: One passes to two and follows her pass. Two passes to three and moves to ones position.
  • Three now passes to player one who is now in the middle. three follows their pass.
  • One passes to four and moves to three, and so on.
  • So, the rule is. If you pass the ball from the outside, you follow it. If you pass the ball from the middle you move to the position of the player who has just passed you the ball.

Pass the opposite direction

  3. Players in Team B attempt to keep the ball.
  4. The coach shouts out loud the number of passes made. Once they get to 5 another player from Team A joins in, then another at 10 passes.
  5. Once the ball has been won the coach throws a ball into Team A and a player from Team B goes in to get the ball.
  6. Players cannot go into the area until a player from the opposite Team has touched the ball.

20 Minutes - Scrimmage
The practice did not go very well. We did not get past the first two exercises. The girls were very lazy mentally and with their feet. We will work on Passing / Moving for the next session.

I did this exact practice for our next session, it went much better. I managed to cover all the coaching points and drills I planned for.
