Possession-3

Set up two 20 x 20 areas as shown above. Place one team of seven players in each area. The coach stands on the outside with the footballs.
  • The coach rolls a football for one team to keep possession.
  • When a player from that team touches the ball, three players from the opposite group go into the area and try to win the ball.
  • The coach counts the passes. When the team in possession gets to 10 passes, another player from the defending group joins in. Then another player on 15 passes, then 20 passes etc.
  • If the defending team gets the ball, the coach rolls a football into the other group, all defending players move into their area and become possession players and so on

Remember, players cant go in the area until a player has touched the ball.

Focus on:
  • Movement / Passing
  • Communication
  • Body shape
  • Players seeing the bigger picture

Variation:

  • Play two touch
  • When defending players win the ball back, they have to pass into the next area to their team mates, then keep possession.
