An Interview with.................................

Mark Smith

Q1. Which Major Changes do you feel have taken place in English football over the past 10 years?

Players are more professional in personal fitness, the game is a lot faster, and money, I wish I was 10 yrs younger.

Q2. What do you think our young players should work on, to develop in the game today?
Technique, attitude and knowledge.
Q3. Do you have a preferred playing system?
No, I think the kind of player dictates your system.
Q4. Have you been influenced in your coaching career?
Yes. By all the people I have worked with, and for, in some capacity.
Q5. Has this changed your philosophy on playing the game?
Certain aspects have changed.
Q6. What is your philosophy on playing the game?
Passing game, but playing when you can. Doing the right thing when you cant. Working hard when not in possession, expressing yourself when in possession.
Q7. What role does sports psychology play in your preparation?
Not a lot, but I think there is a definite place for it in football.
Q8. What is your worry, if any, on football today?
My main worry is that things are not earned anymore, but given to easily, in young players especially. On the professional side, rich clubs are getting richer, and the poor clubs poorer.
Q9. If football vanished, what would you become?
An Artist.
Q10. What is your dream?
To win the Lottery.
Q11. What are your three favourite practices that you use with your players?
1. Defending 1 v 1, 2 v 2, 3 v 3 as a unit. Possession - transfer game and quick feet drills with the footballs.
Thank you to Mark Smith for taking time to answer the questions, Good luck for the future.
