Long & Short Passing

First of all start in a 15 x 15 area with players on the outside cones as shown. Team A has one football and team B has one football.
  1. Both teams start together. One player from each team passes the ball to their team at the opposite end of the grid.
  2. The passing player then moves to the centre of the grid.
  3. The ball is then passed back to the middle player, who then passes to the opposite team. Player middle A will pass to any side to team B, and Player B any side to player A.
  4. The middle player will then follow their pass.
  5. Now stretch the players. Now make the area bigger, 30 x 30. Long pass in the air, then short pass to the opposite group.
Focus on:
  • Quality of passing
  • First touch
  • Awareness (of were to go, and were the other ball is)

Variation:

  • After middle play has passed the ball he/she can run to any group. Players be aware of the group that has less players.
