Counter Attack - 3

Mark out a 15 x 25 area as shown above. Using four players set up as shown with one player in the centre of the grid.
  1. Player A plays a wall pass with player B.
  2. Once player B has played the ball back, player C makes a run. Player A passes into the path of player C.
  3. Player C controls the ball or passes first time to player D. Player C continues the run to the end.
  4. Player D passes to player C.
  5. Player A has gone in the centre and Player B has moved to where Player C started.

Player C will now start the exercise from the opposite end. Player C will play a wall pass with centre player A, player D will make the run and so on.

Focus on:
  • Quality of passing.
  • Timing of run / pass
  • Body shape when receiving pass.
  • Communication.

Variation:

  • Centre player decides whether to pass back or to turn and pass to wide runner themselves.
